Controversial filmmaker Jowee Morel to direct an MTV in London

What a lovely combination for controversial director Jowee Morel!

Remember him and his much talked about films like “Mga Paru-Parong Rosas (Pink Butterflies),” “Moma,” “Ec2luv,” “Mona, Singapore Escort,” “When a Gay Man Loves,” “Latak,” “Moving Dreams,” “HiStory” and “Strictly Confidential”?

He seems to have the cake and eat it, too.

While he is busy burning books on digital filmmaking and screenwriting, he is also set to grind his cameras for an MTV of one of the European continent’s major singers.

“I am very excited to shoot the MTV this February in London because I feel I have so much to contribute to the music industry not only abroad but also in the Philippines,” said Morel in one of our long distance exchanges.

Just a week ago, he was in the Philippines to meet some producers and investors on his film and TV projects.

When he returned to London and had not slept a single minute, riding high in his jet lag, he was kinda surprised to run through his mails, and there it was, an offer to direct an MTV.

He has to bury himself, though, in piles of books and paper works for his filmmaking courses at the City University of London.

According to Jowee, he was all ready and excited to sit on his Cinematography class when he was still in the country until he got a message from the university that the class was for the meantime on hold because of some technicalities.

But his other courses had given their green light.

When Jowee got back to London he attended his classes immediately but had to miss one day because of a delayed flight from the Philippines.

The young director is very happy articulating his excitement over Screenwriting classes. “My God! It’s a very enjoyable course. It’s fabulous. I am able to see through all the current trends in scriptwriting especially for films.

“According to my teacher, the in thing in scriptwriting is simpler term and description. That’s why I am very cautious now of too elaborate scripts. Simple script is more workable. Meaning, precise, brief and concise script is more internationally adapted,” explained Jowee.

His Digital Filmmaking studies are also very enriching, he said.

“I’d got to learn a lot of techniques which are very utilitarian to filmmakers especially in the Third World countries such as the Philippines. In our class, we are multinationals and we learn from our discussions through our respective experiences in our milieu,” he expounded.

Jowee will take up his Cinematography class a couple of weeks from now.

“I am really excited to be in school again,” said the Fil-Briton filmmaker.
