Controversial filmmaker lambasts Concerned Artists of the Philippines, MRTCB, fellow film artists

Controversial moviemaker Jowee Morel is on the warpath anew.

In recent surges of controversies surrounding the X-ing by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board of awarded film director Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Ganito Tayo Ngayon, Paano Tayo Bukas?,” an episode in the omnibus documentary drama for ABS-CBN News Channel’s “AmBisyon,” Morel is spitting not only fire and brimstones but lava as well against the issuance of official statement from the progressive Concerned Artists of the Philippines’ condemning the repressive act of the government on the masterpiece.

While Morel is anathema to censorship and the curtailment of the freedom of expression among artists, he is also quite not friendly with the militant stand of CAP.

Jowee, who is currently in London to pursue his advance filmmaking courses at the Goldsmith College of the University of London and later in September, to enroll in other master’s filmmaking subjects at the University of Greenwich Home, is rebuffing the all talk, no action policy of dissent among the ranks of show biz practitioners.

Likewise, he is condemning the perceived indifference and apathy of his many fellow filmmakers.

Morel has been at odds with the censors since he started filmmaking in the mid-2000. His latest row with MRTCB was when his last art work, “Strictly Confidential” shown sans permit at the University of the Philippines Film Institute Videotheque was singled out as a probable violator of the Constitution which is embodied in Presidential Decree 1986.
